MELVIN LONDON and THE RED HEARTS - I CAN'T GIVE UP

Here is record #2 in this month's series of "45s I own that I know NOTHING (or next to nothing) about".

The only thing I DO know about this one is that it's out of Texas. It's listed on the "Texas Soul Recordings" website (check it out here), but, let's face it, you just have to look at the label to know it's from Texas. Mid to late-60s soul/funk in the style of James Brown circa 1967-68. Anybody got a year of release on this one?

  1. The formation of this Panther label was announced by Billboard on December 10, 1966, as well as the release of your Melvin London record.

  2. about 3 years ago my cousin in florida fed-exed me a box of about 600 soul and r&b 45's he found in a abandoned record distributors warehouse in florida. This record along with countless other texas soul 45's were in the box.At first glance i thought,i wonder if this is Mel London who owned Chief records in chicago, then i thought,no..not with the texas connection.Either way a great 45 that seems not to pop up too often...
